What to Expect from your class

Beginning Levels 1-3

These students are usually able to learn a significant amount, able maintain good technique. Significant amounts of positive reinforcement coupled with strictness helps the students know from the beginning what is acceptable behavior and how much effort should go into dancing.

Important concepts • First and Second Positions • Parallel and turn-out• Body awareness (what are my arms doing)

• Special awareness (what shape am I making in the room? How much dancing space do I have?) • Use of mirror - forward and backwards while looking in the mirror • Be able to turn out legs at will • Be able to press the shoulders down and maintain a straight back and long neck  • Be able to stretch the knees and understand the different between straight and stretched

 

Vocabulary • Plié in 1st and 2nd • Tendu from 1st to front and side • Temps lié through second position • Introduce fifth position • Sauté • Echappé Sauté • Temps lié • Pas de chat turned out, sideways • Chassé  • Soutenue • Bourée • leap on one leg

Graduation Requirements Student must be able to do 11 of the 14 requirements in order to graduate to the next level.
